LMS without revenue sharing: what to compare
Evaluate LMS plans without commission on course sales. Compare subscriptions, usage, gateway fees, direct payments and total operating cost.

An LMS without revenue sharing charges for the service without taking a percentage of course sales under that plan. It can still charge a subscription, usage, add-ons and setup; the payment gateway may charge processing fees. Upclass’s flat monthly plans do not require revenue sharing, and student fees go to the institute’s own payment gateway. Upclass also offers other pricing models, so specify the flat plan when that is your requirement.
Define what “no commission” includes
Ask whether the provider charges a percentage, a fixed amount per sale, an enrolment fee or a compulsory transaction component. A no-revenue-share label can be compatible with usage fees and a monthly subscription. Read the commercial definition instead of assuming every cost disappears. Identify the payment provider’s charge separately and clarify the treatment of refunds.
Distinguish the charges
| Charge | What it pays for | Flat-plan check |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue share | A percentage of course sales | Confirm this component is zero under the selected model |
| Platform fee | Access to the service and plan features | Check subscription and renewal terms |
| Usage | Video delivery, storage and processing | Estimate from your teaching activity |
| Gateway fee | Payment processing | Confirm with the gateway independently |
Calculate the trade-off with sales volume
A subscription can become attractive as course revenue increases, but its cost still depends on usage and features. Use the same course sales and watching behaviour in both models. For a fictional 5% platform commission, ₹4,00,000 in monthly sales would produce ₹20,000 of platform commission before other charges. This is an illustrative calculation, not a statement about a competitor’s rate.
Verify payment ownership
Ask whose gateway account takes the payment, where settlement occurs and who handles receipts, refunds and disputes. Direct settlement does not itself establish zero commission; a provider may invoice service charges separately. Test a purchase and reconcile the record in both the LMS and gateway. Keep staff access to financial actions appropriate to their roles.
Make sure the workflow still fits
Commercial terms cannot compensate for missing question types, poor student access or manual enrolment work. Test the teaching workflow and device coverage before picking the lowest commission structure. Agree data export, renewal and support terms. A transparent overall bill with the required features is more useful than a narrow zero-commission claim.
Flat plans and your own gateway
Use Upclass’s monthly-plus-usage model when a flat platform fee is your preferred arrangement. Confirm app and security scope, usage estimates and payment setup so the plan matches both teaching needs and course economics.
Frequently asked questions
Does Upclass take a commission on flat plans?
Upclass’s flat monthly plans do not require revenue sharing. Usage and payment gateway charges are separate. Upclass also offers per-student and revenue-share options, so confirm the chosen model in your quote.
Do payments go directly to my account?
Upclass states that students’ fees go into the institute’s own payment gateway. Confirm the gateway setup, settlement, receipts and refund process for your institute; processing fees remain a separate cost.
Is no revenue sharing always cheaper?
No. Compare total cost at realistic sales and usage levels with the same features. A different model can suit a small or variable operation, while a fixed plan may suit an established course business.
